The Future Of The E Cigarette

By: Jeff Smith

A lot of people have never even heard of an e cigarette, but these electronic devices are getting a lot of attention world wide. Touted by many as being safer than tobacco products, the battery-powered smoking tubes are catching on in many areas and banned in others.
Some products look just like a regular filter cigarette, while others are sleek and shiny, available in brilliant colors, elegant black, and stainless steel. Beginners generally start with a kit that contains a battery, a battery charger with a USB and a wall plug-in, cartridges, the e liquid, and a users manual. There are variations, such as cartridges that contain the atomizer as well as the mouthpiece, or carrying cases that recharge the e cigarette for the next use.
The atomizer, which is also the battery, heats the liquid to a vapor, which gives the physical sensation of smoking without any kind of fire or actual burning. Many users say the taste is just like smoking tobacco. The vapor does not linger in the air like smoke, and it has no odor to permeate clothing or the interiors of automobiles and houses, and will not cause 'smoker's breath'.
The smokeless cigarettes are believed to be safer than smoking tobacco, which actually burns, producing smoke, ash, and tars. Demonstrations show that the vapor is much cleaner than smoke, which leaves a brown residue when blown through a tissue, and which leaves its strong odor on clothing, home furnishings, and the breath of the user. People who have smoked for years and now are using the electric variety report less lung congestion, reduced coughing, and a return of taste and smell. Scientific studies, however, have not yet been reported, and the chemicals that are used in producing the electronic devices and the vapor may have side effects not yet suspected.
Consumer watchdogs like the US Food and Drug Administration are concerned about minors using these electric smoking tools, which may contain nicotine if the user chooses a liquid that contains this addictive health hazard. Supporters of the smokeless devices say that the additives in tobacco cigarettes and the after-effects of burning are the most negative aspects of regular smoking. They also point out that there is no second-hand smoke with an e cigarette.
Many manufacturers of this new alternative do not sell nicotine at all; they advocate enjoying the physical sensation of the pretense and the many flavors of the vapor without indulging in the drug. Other makers offer liquids with differing concentrations of nicotine; customers may choose their preference from zero nicotine to extra high levels.
Some models look just like a regular filter cigarette, while others make no bones about being new and different, coming in bright colors, classic black, or gleaming stainless steel. LED lights on the ends mimic a glowing ember, and there is either a button to press while inhaling to activate the vapor action or a sensor to automatically trigger the heat when air is drawn into the device.
The e cigarette is causing a lot of excitement as people turn to it as a safer way to enjoy smoking, a way to perhaps kick the nicotine habit, a legal way to smoke on the job, or for the novelty and reduced cost.
