Get the Perfect Tattoo - Tattoo Books

By: Gary Pearson

On my 18th birthday, my friend Kelly and I made appointments at our local tattoo parlor to celebrate our adulthood. Kelly already knew what she wanted to get. She had forever been a fan of Tigger, and that is exactly what she felt she needed to have permanently drawn on her. I thought that a childish tattoo wasn't exactly a celebration of adulthood. I didn't really know what I wanted, but I knew that I wanted it to be something that meant something to me. Perhaps something that symbolized who I was. We arrived an hour early for our appointments so that I could look through the stacks and stacks of tattoo books. I was not sure what I was hoping those tattoo books would show me, but I knew that I would know it when I found it.
The first tattoo books I looked through had some really horrific artwork in them, no matter how cleverly disguised as art, these were not for me, and I started to get worried. I was looking for a smallish, feminine tattoo that I could confidently wear on my ankle and would represent who I am. I was concerned that I would not find anything in the tattoo books at the parlor.
I looked through a number of tattoo books in the first half hour and found some of them ugly and some really beautiful, but none that said "this is you", or leapt out from the page at me. At this point in time I was becoming concerned and one of the tattoo artists saw this. He came over to me with another armful of tattoo books and I thought, oh no, not more! But after asking me a few questions about what I liked and who I am, he went through the tattoo books until he felt he had the right one, opened it and pointed at the perfect tattoo for me.
When he showed me the picture of the small dolphin, depicted in all the colors of the rainbow, I was ecstatic. I loved dolphins, in fact they were my favorite animal, I loved the ocean and I was an artist so the rainbow colors were really me. Finally all those tattoo books had yielded something that was just right for me. My perfect tattoo!
A while ago I was helping this other friend of mine look for a tattoo that would be perfect for her. We looked through the tattoo books, but she seemed to be having the same problem I had. I was looking at tattoo books, just to pass time and when I opened one of them, I found what she was looking for. A few hours later we left the parlor, happy and smiling, she with her perfect tattoo, me, with a happy friend. I would like to suggest to you, if you are looking for the perfect tattoo, you also look through plenty of tattoo books until you find the right one.
